EWS Varsity Soccer

The goal of the East Woods Athletic program is to teach sportsmanship, fair play, teamwork and cooperation, as well as basic athletic skill development. Each student receives a firm grounding in the sport they choose to play. They also learn to be both a good winner and a gracious loser. The spirit of competition is the spirit of sportsmanship at East Woods.

Our Kindergarten through Third Graders attend Physical Education classes three times each week. Our Fourth Graders attend Physical Education classes two times each week.

Every Fifth through Eighth Grade student participates in interscholastic athletics during the Fall, Winter and Spring. Fourth Graders are given the option to participate on the Junior Varsity teams. For the most part, Fifth and Sixth Graders are placed on Junior Varsity teams, and Seventh and Eighth are placed on Varsity teams. The emphasis of the Junior Varsity program is to teach each student the skills required for each sport and to develop the concept of team play.

Varsity teams play other schools on a more competitive level. Students continue to learn fundamentals and team play, as well as intermediate and advanced skills. Coaches make every effort to include each team member in every game.

Team Sports offered are:
Fall: Boys and Girls Soccer
Winter: Boys and Girls Basketball, and Ice Hockey
Spring: Boys Baseball and Girls Softball

Green and White Teams

A longstanding East Woods tradition is the annual, year-long competition between the Green and White teams. Students are placed on either the Green or White team starting in the Fifth Grade. If a family member has been on a team in the past, that child automatically is placed on that team to continue the family’s tradition at East Woods School.

Upper School students are elected by their teammates to fill the important Green & White captains role. Captains are responsible for leading their teams throughout the school year in the various Student Council and Athletic events. Points are awarded for both academic and athletic achievement. At the end of each athletic season, the students play a Green and White game in their respective sport. In the Fall, the students compete in the Turkey Trot, a mini-thon run through the East Woods campus. The school year culminates with the Green and White Field Day. This is a friendly competition that fosters a sense of camaraderie among our students, and helps to enforce the importance of good sportsmanship.
