Your Support Matters

East Woods is greatly appreciative of the many ways in which parents, grandparents, alums, parents of alums, faculty, staff, friends, corporations, and foundations generously support the school. Once people understand that tuition alone does not support the cost of education they also understand the urgency and necessity of their support. Gifts to the school are critical to the school’s growth and financial stability.

Gifts of time, talents and resources; donations to The Fund for East Woods, planned giving, and endowment giving are all important components of the East Woods’ fundraising effort. We hope that you will take a moment to read about the many ways you can give to East Woods.

Please note that East Woods is a recognized non-profit organization. All charitable gifts to the school are tax deductible.

The Fund for East Woods

The Fund for East Woods, is the cornerstone of East Woods' fundraising efforts. Fund tax-deductible gifts provide available dollars that have an immediate impact on the day-to-day vibrancy of East Woods – supporting competitive faculty salaries, financial aid, books, field trips, athletic programs and special events. It offsets the difference between the tuition collected and the operational expenses of the school. The gap between tuition and the cost of educating each child is more than $4,000 per student.

Each year we ask everyone to make a gift to the Fund for East Woods. Every gift is important because it is a gift of participation which signals community support and helps in asking for charitable support from philanthropic foundations. Our goal? To have 100% parent participation and strengthened community participation each year. We encourage you to help us meet this goal.

Gifts to The Fund for East Woods range from $25 to more than $25,000. Every donation demonstrates a commitment to East Woods and its mission. While leadership gifts are key to setting the foundation to help us meet our goals, smaller gifts add up and are equally important and equally appreciated.

Ways of giving include:
  • Cash
    • The easiest way to give to East Woods is by check or credit card. All gifts are tax deductible to the full extent of the law and can be paid by check or credit card (Visa or MasterCard). For your convenience, you may make a gift by Online Giving.
  • Securities
    • A gift of appreciated securities is a popular alternative to a cash gift because it offers a two-fold tax savings. It provides you with an income tax deduction (equal to the fair market value at the date of transfer) and may reduce capital gains tax. Please inform us which securities and the number of shares that you will be transferring. The school’s corporate name is “East Woods School.” The school’s tax identification number is 11-1554072.
  • Matching gifts
    • You can increase the size of your gift by taking advantage of a corporate matching gift program, if available through your place of work. Your gift may be doubled or even tripled by your employer. Simply complete the matching gift form, available through your employer’s personnel office, and enclose it with your gift.

Commemorative Giving

Many alums, parents, grandparents, parents of alums, and friends of East Woods School have chosen to pay tribute to an individual or group by making a gift in honor or in memory. For example, one may honor the birth of a child or honor a child’s birthday with the gift of a book to the Library. Memorial gifts are often made in memory of members of the East Woods’ community. These gifts provide unrestricted support that will benefit current and future students.

Funds and financial assets contributed to the endowment generate income through prudent investment of the principal. Dollars generated by East Woods' endowment support faculty salaries and student financial assistance. Gifts to the endowment are permanent assets and give us the resources to respond to long-term needs. Ideally, income from a growing endowment supplements the operating budget and relieves the necessity for large tuition increases.
Multi-year pledges are encouraged. Over time, as these pledges are fulfilled and become actual cash gifts, the School's endowment grows. Since only the income derived from the endowment is spent, each endowment gift creates an ongoing investment that spans generations.

Our endowments are earmarked towards Faculty, Scholarship, and General Endowments.
  • Faculty Endowment
    • Enables us to attract and retain the best teachers. Funds will provide professional development, graduate studies and retirement benefit plans.
  • Scholarship Endowment
    • Income will provide scholarships to students in need of financial assistance.
  • General Endowment
    • Unrestricted endowments allow the Trustees and Head of School the greatest flexibility to respond to educational initiatives and unforeseen expenses such as emergency repairs to our building and grounds.

Matching Gifts

You can increase the size of your gift by taking advantage of a corporate matching gift program, if available through your place of work. Your gift may be doubled or even tripled by your employer. The Spring Fair Weekend is designed to be a lively "friendraiser" for East Woods community members and friends. Our campus grounds are transformed into a true fairground where there is something for all ages - games, rides, face painting, live bands, and food. In order to make the Spring Fair successful, we need everyone's help! There are many ways in which you can volunteer your time, resources, and talent.
