Student Council
The Student Council at East Woods School is a student-led organization comprised of elected representatives from the Fifth through Eighth Grades, dedicated to serving the student body's best interests. All Upper School students can run for Student Council, with two representatives elected from each class. The Student Council fosters student unity through weekly meetings and event planning while promoting leadership, responsibility, and good citizenship.
The council helps students develop a sense of leadership, demonstrating that there are many ways to lead and contribute to the growth of their identity and self-image. Funds from school events like dances, dress-down days, continental breakfasts, and Green & White support various charities and student social activities. Students also gain valuable experience organizing events and taking responsibility for their success. Occasionally, the council organizes off-site volunteer efforts, such as supporting local shelters, animal shelters, and environmental organizations.
Green & White Games
The year-long competition between the Green and White teams is a special East Woods tradition. Starting in Fifth Grade, students are assigned to either the Green or White team, with children of past team members automatically placed on the same team to continue the family tradition.
Upper School students are elected by their peers to serve as Green and White captains, leading their teams through various Student Council and athletic events throughout the school year. Points are earned for both academic and athletic achievements. Students participate in a Green and White game for their respective sport at the end of each athletic season. In the Fall, the Turkey Trot, a mini-thon run through the East Woods campus, adds to the competition. The school year concludes with Green and White Field Day, a friendly event fostering student camaraderie, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
