East Woods has a highly active Parents Association, dedicated to enriching our school through the involvement of East Woods parents in a variety of activities and events. Development of community is the primary objective of the Parents Association at East Woods, and that is enhanced through communication. We hope that parents will use the website to stay informed about the school and their children’s activities and achievements.
We rely on dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers throughout the year. Parents volunteer their time to serve as class representatives, host faculty-staff appreciation events, and arrange parent programs. Parents also help organize events such as class photos, Welcoming Receptions for New Families, class parties, Inter-School Exchange (ISE) dances and tournaments, and the 8th Grade Bazaar.
Please join us at a PA meeting or a special coffee. For specific event and volunteer information, please refer to the PA page of the Parent Portal (login required).

Meet the Teacher Mornings and Evenings are held early in the fall for Nursery through Eighth Grade parents. The Division Heads welcome parents, and the teachers for each class present their academic goals for the year and an overview of the curriculum. All parents are urged to attend these important meetings and to ask questions. At these meetings, there will also be an opportunity to sign-up for parent/teacher conferences.
In early December the Eighth Grade organizes this event beginning with a pancake breakfast followed by games and activities in the gym for children. Plants, fruit, and other items may be sold. This bazaar was created to raise money for the class gifts which are presented to the school at graduation.
The Inter School Exchange was founded in 1990 “…to create a platform, with Headmaster support, for the educational, cultural, and community events exchange between the following five private schools on the North Shore of Long Island: Buckley Country Day School, East Woods School, Friends Academy, The Green Vale School, and Portledge School.” The ISE committee members (consisting of a minimum of two representatives from each school) meet monthly and are advised by the Headmaster Board of Directors.
Keep an eye on the calendar for ISE dance and sporting events as well.
A New Parents Reception is held in the evening during the opening weeks of school at the home of the Head of School. Families new to East Woods are welcomed into the community by the Head of School, President of the Board of Trustees, the President of the Parents Association, the Trustees and the Administration.
The Parents Association urges all parents to attend these sessions. They provide an opportunity for all parents to communicate ideas, discover new approaches and give support to each other as we meet the everyday challenges of raising children. Sessions will be held in the fall and winter. Information regarding time, topics and guest speakers will be announced at Parents Association Meetings and in the weekly bulletin.
Parents’ Visiting Day takes place on Election Day each year. Parents are invited to visit their child’s classes and the Fall Book Fair. Dismissal is at 12:00 noon, and there are competitive games scheduled for the Fifth – Eighth Grade teams and their parents. A BBQ lunch is provided for the Fifth through Eighth Grade students, and their mother or father before the games.
The Book Fair is held every fall for the entire school. At the Book Fair, specially selected hard and soft cover books, tapes, computer programs, and other related items for all ages will be on sale in the Library. Parents are encouraged to make book donations of specific selections to the Library at this time.
A reading list is provided beforehand for each class. The Fair is intended as a service to East Woods families to facilitate the purchase of appropriate reading. Volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Family and friends are welcome.
