Inspiring Excellence in Every Child
East Woods provides a superior academic program that fosters learning that is authentic in meeting each child's abilities, and challenges our students' full potential. Integral to our academic approach is Character Education, Academic Advancement, and the Learning Center.
Academic Advancement
East Woods Academic offers Advancement opportunities. Students can be assessed for their math skills and placed in classes that match their abilities rather than their age. This method ensures that students are appropriately challenged and receive instruction that aligns with their current level of understanding. It helps build their confidence and motivation in math as students work with material suited to their abilities. As a result, students are more likely to stay engaged and perform well, as they are not held back by material that is too easy or overwhelmed by content that is too difficult.
East Woods implements the Scarborough Reading Rope model in reading to emphasize the skills needed for reading proficiency. The method stresses the blend of comprehending language and recognizing words to aid students in building a holistic grasp of reading. Additionally, we incorporate the Arts & Letters program, which fosters the enhancement of robust literacy abilities by taking a thorough approach that centers on reading, writing, and verbal communication. The My Geodes initiative goes a step further by providing top-notch materials to expand on knowledge and inspire a passion for reading in students.
Learning Center
The East Woods Learning Center offers personalized support tailored to each student’s needs, as identified by the administration in partnership with parents, teachers, and, if necessary, external specialists. This collaborative approach, underpinned by clear communication, is key to the success of the Learning Center's support for each student.
Students have access to a range of individualized support based on need, including assistance with academics, speech and language therapy, and social-emotional and behavioral interventions. Learning Center expertise within the student partnership and evaluation provides a window into how students learn and informs what type of support will help guide them toward success.
Our aim in providing Learning Center support is for each student to reach a point where they can successfully navigate and integrate within the school experience, no longer requiring additional support services.
