French Cultural Day
Laura Sacco

The Eighth Grade French students recently had a thrilling day immersing themselves in French culture in New York City. Their itinerary included stops at the French Cultural Embassy, Millefeuille Bakery in the West Village, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

At the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the students received a private visit and met with the Attaché Culturel, Fabrice Jaumont. He shared the mission of the Cultural Services in promoting Francophony across the US, including arts, literature, cinema, language, and higher education. The opportunity to meet with the Attaché Culturel and tour the Cultural Services left a lasting impression on the students.

Next, the students participated in a baking workshop led by Parisian French Pastry Chef, Pauline, at Millefeuille in the West Village. They learned how to prepare and bake their own croissants in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. As a bonus, they each took home a box of 25 or more of their own delectable creations.

Earlier in the year, the students had been introduced to Impressionist and Cubist French painters. During their visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, each student acted as a guide and presented their artist, describing the style and techniques used.

Finally, the students enjoyed a gourmet dinner at a French Brasserie, in keeping with the tradition of French culture.

Overall, the day was a wonderful opportunity for the students to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of French culture. They had fun, learned new skills, and made memories that they will cherish for years to come.
