On Thursday, October 13, at 6:30 p.m., East Woods School past parents, alumni, faculty, Trustees, and current students gathered to remember and celebrate Mr. Tom Knight. He taught woodshop and metalworking at East Woods from 1975-2018. Approximately 75 people attended to honor Mr. Knight. Some of his former students brought projects they had made in his class over the years, so the attendees enjoyed touring those. Dr. Nathaniel Peirce, former Head of East Woods, was the keynote speaker, recognizing and honoring Mr. Knight's teaching and many contributions to the school. Dr. Catherine Knight, his wife, spoke. Dr. Knight is currently teaching a metalworking elective to middle school students. Mr. Knight's son, Devon, spoke as well. The evening culminated in naming the woodshop as the Thomas L. Knight Woodshop in perpetuity. Mr. Daly, East Woods art teacher and principal in Dalymade Studio in Brooklyn, created the naming sign he and Mrs. Kang unveiled. Also, a photo taken by Devon of his dad in the woodshop was unveiled. Both are now hanging outside the woodshop and are permanently named to honor Mr. Knight. Thank you to all who attended!
