East Woods believes in promoting a climate of intercultural awareness and respect, developing and implementing a curriculum to appreciate the depth and breadth of diverse thoughts and perspectives, and actively seeking a diverse student body, faculty, and staff in the composition of EWS.
We believe in equal opportunity and equal access focused on community empowerment and co-ownership, in strategically building and sustaining diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusivity.

We will work toward accomplishing these goals through specific, targeted strategies aimed at:
- Creating a welcoming and supportive climate for diverse students and faculty to promote intercultural awareness;
- Respecting and valuing differences within the classroom;
- Promoting dialogue between and among diverse groups;
- Actively seeking different perspectives, histories, and contributions of diverse individuals;
- Recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty and student body;
- Developing specific search committee roles regarding diversity;
- Providing greater accessibility both financially and socially;
- Advocating for a school climate in and out of the classroom that is supportive of a diverse student and faculty body;
- Implementing a coordinated admissions marketing strategy and;
- Providing sensitivity training and education opportunities to the staff and the larger EWS community.

Multicultural Series News
Born and raised in Bristol, England, George Kinsey, East Wood's Upper School teacher, is passionate about sharing insights into his hometown.
This year's second presenter in the Multicultural Community series is Andrea Jaramillo-Serna, East Wood's Lower School Spanish teacher.
East Woods School's fourth presentation in the Multicultural Speaker Series launched into Black History Month with presentations from three distinguished guest speakers.
As the third presenter, Magda Labonté-Blaise, participating in this year's Multicultural Community series, brings to life the rich history of Haiti, a country with a heritage dating back centuries.
This year's second presenter in the Multicultural Community series is Rajyalakshmi Shtrom, parent of Teja, Class of 2024.
This year's first presenter in the Multicultural Community series is Joanna (Saab) Koelmel, parent of Anabelle, Class of 2024.
Entering its second year, the Multicultural Community program, initiated by Wynne W. '23, will be carried forward by two Eighth Grade students, Anabelle K. and Teja S.
The fourth presenter in the Multicultural Community series is Orlando Peña, East Woods' very own drama teacher. He was born in Cuba just a few years before Fidel Castro came to power.
On Friday, February 3rd, Denice Evans-Sheppard, Executive Director of the Oyster Bay Historical Society, spoke to students during a presentation hosted by East Woods School and the Multicultural Club, created by Eighth Grade student Wynne W.
The fourth presenter in the Multicultural Community series is Miki Araki-Daly, parent of Sani (4th) and Kiki (7th). She shared her ethnicity's language, customs, and traditions of Japan.
The third presenter in the Multicultural Community series is Vicky Liang, parent of Miranda (1st) and Wesley (5th). She shared her ethnicity's language, customs, and traditions about the Chinese New Year.
The second presenter in the Multicultural Community series is Briana Donavan, parents of Brendan, Class of 2023. Briana has a rich Bajan heritage with links to Ireland as well. She shared her ethnicity's language, customs, traditions, and meaningful facts.
