Under the guidance of their teacher, Madame Martine Tawaji, the East Woods students entered two competitive categories: Recitation and Original Poetry. For the Recitation category competition, the students were expected to memorize a poem appropriate to their level of study. The evaluation criteria for this were pronunciation, intonation, poise, interpretation and level of appropriateness. For the Original Poetry competition, students were judged on the basis of originality, usage of French and poetic quality. Recognition awards consisted of first and second prize and three honorable mentions for each grade division and competition category.

For Recitation, the following eighth graders received awards: Frederick Schueler, 2nd place; So A Ryu, 1st Honorable Mention; Dillon Wilensky, 2nd Honorable Mention. The seventh graders who received awards are: Parker Huseby , 1st Honorable Mention; Nathaniel Hogg, 2nd Honorable Mention.

Only eighth graders participated in the Original Poetry competition. The students who received awards for Original Poetry are: Dillon Wilensky, 1st place; Grant Murphy, 2nd place; So A Ryu, 1st Honorable Mention; Catherine Bechand, 2nd Honorable Mention.
