The following East Woods students are the winners of the National Spanish Exam 2009: Eighth Grade: Sophie Barnard and Joseph Macy, with both a top score of 95th percentile, won Premio de Oro (Gold); Brandt Beckerman, Kristie Kelly, Brittany Kriegstein, Scarlett Lopez and Laura Schinagle won Premio de Plata (Silver); and, Steven Cortese and Kelsey Costello won Premio de Excelencia (Excellence placement). In Seventh Grade: Ruby Malusa, with top score of 98th percentile, won Premio de Oro (Gold); Mary Catherine Grassi and Daniel Kimmick won Premio de Plata (Silver); Kabir Chabra, Anthony Brendan D’Loren, Courtney Friedman, Angelica Green, Brielle Habberstad and Phillips Hopkinson won Premio de Excelencia (Excellence placement).
Several East Woods French language students placed in the top ten of the French National Exam and many received high Nassau County rankings. Félicitations to these students. Eighth Grade: Frederick Schueler (10th National, 8th Nassau Chapter), Dillon Wilensky (9th Nassau Chapter), Tyler Douglas (10th Nassau Chapter), So A Ryu (14th Nassau Chapter) and Skyler Campbell (Certificat de Réussite). Seventh Grade: Samantha Antoine (5th National, 3rd Nassau Chapter) and Parker Huseby (Certificat d’Honneur). The following seventh graders received a Certificat de Réussite: Margaret Brennan, Luke Cohen, Morgan Goldstein, Danielle Henry, Nathaniel Hogg, David Levine, Madison Little, Danyelle Ubertini and Megan Walsh. These students were awarded prizes at the “Distibution Des Prix” at Herricks Middle School on May 14.
East Woods students also excelled on the National Latin Examination 2009. Congratulations to eighth graders Brittany Kriegstein and Sophia Barnard for receiving a Certificate of Honorable Merit, Cum Laude; seventh grader Ruby Malusa for being awarded a Certificate of Merit, Outstanding Achievement; and, seventh graders Nathaniel Hogg, Parker Huseby and David Levine for receiving a Certificate of Merit, Achievement. They were taught by Spanish teacher Patricia Bever, French Teacher Martine Tawaji and Latin teacher Olivia Dreizen. East Woods students begin Spanish instruction in Kindergarten, and continue learning Spanish throughout Lower School. In Sixth Grade, students elect to study either French or Spanish, and will continue to learn their language of choice through Ninth Grade. Latin instruction begins in Seventh Grade and continues in Eighth Grade.  |
