(Derry is very close to the border with the Republic of Ireland, and has experienced much civil disorder from the 1960's-1990's.) She took many of the same classes at Thornhill that she does at East Woods, with the exception of Gaelic and home economics. Emma also enjoyed a weekend excursion to London, a city which she had never previously visited.

Emma highly recommended studying abroad to East Woods students, and emphasized the value of experiencing a different culture.
