Policies

  • Grades N-5 have weekly scheduled library periods. Grades 6-9 use the library media center during scheduled blocks of time during the year. However, with their teachers’ permission, students may visit the library during school hours, for browsing, for book exchange, or for reference work.
  • Students may borrow up to 3 items at a time.
  • Circulating books are loaned for a two-week time period and must be returned or renewed by the due date. Longer borrowing periods may be requested in special circumstances, such as by teacher request.
  • Reference books may be borrowed for overnight loan.
  • Curriculum-related videos and DVDs may be borrowed for 1 week.
  • Overdue notices are sent out periodically. There are no fines for overdue items, but prompt return is expected. Children with overdue items may be restricted from further borrowing until materials are returned or renewed.
  • Borrowers are responsible for materials signed out to them. Any lost or damaged items must be paid for according to the replacement cost of the item.
  • Parents are encouraged to use the library’s resources. Suggested student reading lists by grade are available online.

Parents' Role

  • Encourage children to read. Show an interest in the books that are brought home and read with children on a daily basis.
  • Promote the proper care of library materials. Provide a safe place for library materials at home and remind children to return materials on time.
  • Encourage children to be responsible users of information, practicing ethical behavior in regard to information and information technology.
