 | | Second Grade Students in the Technology Lab |
Technology supports increased opportunities for active learning for students and more options for achieving school-wide curriculum goals. Technology is employed to assist student learning by offering students and teachers a variety of ways to present, access, analyze and apply information. A variety of methods is presented to students to interact with curriculum content and affords the teacher more choices in individualizing student learning.
Technology represents a set of tools that East Woods students will need to master in preparation for work, for study and for success. Constant practice in using these tools in a variety of contexts will instill in students the ability to use them effectively as adults.
We also recognize that technology exists in a larger context of social issues, cultural values and human purposes and relationships. At East Woods, we believe that the learning needs of students and the curriculum goals are the driving forces behind the effective implementation of technology.
East Woods Computer Curriculum Vision
East Woods never forgets that a computer is just a machine. We have always believed that the power of technology will help create a renaissance in learning, but we also know that the best computers and the most innovative software programs are no substitute for a dedicated teacher and a conscientious, motivated student. Powerful new tools are an important part of education but they'll never be more important than the people who use them.
The Information Age
New technology brings a large store of information to the learning process in language arts, social studies, math, science and creative arts at East Woods. That information is available in many forms, from text to maps to photographs to full-motion video.
