General Information

The Rousmaniere Library is the center of many academic, curricular and community-related activities for East Woods School. The library promotes a love of reading and provides resources to support the curriculum. Students are encouraged to use information sources in different formats both within and beyond the library's walls. Through a sequential program of research and information skills instruction, students develop competency in locating and evaluating information sources, thus becoming effective creators and communicators of information. Proficiency in these skills will enable students to succeed in today's age of information.

The library media center provides access to an ever-expanding collection of materials including approximately 20,000 volumes of reference, fiction, and non-fiction books; audiovisuals, including a growing collection of DVDs and digital audiobooks; online access to encyclopedia and reference sources; subscription to 20 magazine titles, with access to additional magazine and journal titles via our online databases. The library contains 8 networked computers with Internet access for student use and is adjacent to the technology center.  A rear-projection SmartBoard with a touch screen enhances teaching, by providing an interactive learning environment.

The library is automated and uses Sagebrush Spectrum software for our circulation system and patron's catalog. Students in Grades N-5 have weekly scheduled library periods. Grades 6-9 use the library media center during scheduled blocks of time during the year. However, all students are encouraged to use the library whenever the need arises. With their teachers' permission, students may visit the library during school hours, for browsing, for book exchange, or for research. All members of the East Woods School community are invited to use the resources of the library media center.

HOURS

We respectfully ask that you borrow materials during the hours that the library is staffed, Monday-Thursday 8:00-4:00 and Friday 8:00-12:30. We will be happy to demonstrate the use of the catalog and circulation system.

GIVE-A-BOOK PROGRAM

Families may donate a new book to the library in honor of a special occasion, in appreciation or in memory of a loved one.  An inscribed bookplate inside the item acknowledges the gift.

Donors may select a title (maintained in a wish list in the library), which reflects a particular interest of a child, or one that is appropriate for a specific occasion.

For more information, contact the librarians at 922-4400, ext. 106 or e-mail Ruth Lorbert.
