Livers at Work! In our science unit about the human body, the students learned how the liver filters out toxins from the body. They placed slices of liver in plastic cups and added hydrogen peroxide. The liver filtered out the extra oxygen molecules, turning the peroxide into water. The flame is a reaction caused by lighting a match over the cup. The escaping molecules of oxygen caused the flame to burn brightly. As a culmination of the experiment, we discussed how this works in the human body. |
