What better way to learn than by enjoying hands-on experiences, coupled with academic rigor?
In Science, the students were excited to test their knowledge and thoughts about air pressure and how air takes up space.
In Language Arts, the students are living the “Flat Stanley” experience, by acting out chapters to enhance comprehension and decoding skills.
In Third Grade Math, our students are learning about place value by playing a game in which they use numbered cards to make up and compare six digit numbers.
All of our Third Graders consider themselves writers, supported by the Columbia University Writer’s Workshop model. In writing narratives, the students utilize seed ideas, which are small moments in each of their lives that evoke emotions, such as joy, fear, disappointment, or love. The students are currently learning strategies for writing story starters and dialogue, and work with peers and their teacher to compliment and revise each other’s work.
