Native American Day

On Thursday, October 13, Second Grade participated in the Journey Into Native Territory program. The day was full of activities to culminate the study of Native Americans. The program was presented by Bob Vetter, professor of Native Studies at Stony Brook University, and his friend Jamie, a member of the Cherokee nation. These experts set-up a full-sized tepee, while explaining the step-by-step procedure to the students. The students also learned native songs, dances, and crafts, played Native American games and visited a traveling museum filled with authentic artifacts. The day was filled with many opportunities for exploration and creative work for the Second Grade students.
