On Friday, March 5, East Woods School’s Nursery – Fourth Grade celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday by hosting a Drop Everything And Read day (D.E.A.R.). For this day, children were invited to come to school wearing their pajamas and with a favorite book and stuffed animal.
The celebration began with the Kindergarten class performing a rhyming chant, which was followed by Dr. Peirce reading his favorite Dr. Seuss story, The Cat in the Hat, to the students. The students were delighted by the Headmaster’s reading of the classic book. After the story, Mrs. Bartlett read a letter that Dr. Seuss had written to East Woods School students many years ago. Next, Lower School students were given the opportunity to read their own books with a group of friends, a teacher, or quietly by themselves. Each child also received a Dr. Seuss bookmark, diploma and ate a special Dr. Seuss-themed snack!
The ‘Cat in the Hat’, himself, couldn’t have made the morning any more wonderful!
