Culture Club!

The East Woods Culture Clubis made up of seventh and eighth graders. It began as an opportunity for seventh and eighth graders to share cultural experiences, which helps foster greater bonds between the classes. We take students into theNew York Cityto experience a slice of “Big Apple,” which often includes events outside of the Broadway experience. On all of our trips we dine inNew York Cityalso.

The club has had some wonderful experiences through the years. Some of the wonderful events students have witnessed are, a New York Knicks basketball game at MSG, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, a tour of Radio City, a tour of NBC Studios, and we experienced, “The Ride,” “The Ride” takes place aboard a $1.3 million dollar motor coach, a fully glass sided vehicle, including forty video screens with movie quality sound and images. “The Ride” takes in everythingNew York City, and kicks it into overdrive. It merges an Off Broadway production, a city tour, and reality TV. We also took a tour of the Waldorf Astoria, including dining at the Waldorf, and an Islander hockey game.  We also saw “101 Dalmatians,” “SwanLake,” “Burn the Floor,” a show about ballroom dancing, to name a few. The first trip for the 2011 season is already in place, and the students will experience, “Traces,” which fuses the traditions of circus with the energy of street performance,Tracesis an explosive display of raw emotion and physicality in an intimate urban setting.

It is such a joy to witness the excitement and enthusiasm of the students as we get ready for our trips. Haya Sheeline expressed it well, saying,” many times, the highlight of my day is finding out what exciting trip we will be going on in the near future in Mr. Huneke’s culture club. The culture club is so much fun for me and my friends.”
