The Lower School Spanish Classroom is alive with wonderful work and beautiful sounds. ¡Viva el español!
We have changed the classroom set-up from desks to three colorful tables in the shape of ¡FRUTAS! - un plátano amarillo (a yellow banana), una pera verde (a green pear), and un racimo de uvas moradas (a bunch of purple grapes). We also have a new electronic piano in the classroom that allows Señora Mulrean not only to play the Spanish songs, but also to add various Latino rhythms and percussive effects. This makes learning the Spanish songs even more fun.
The Kindergarten students have begun to watch segments of “Español Para Ti”, an excellent children’s program that reinforces the classroom work. The children work and play with La Maestra (the teacher) in the classroom, and then with La Maestra on the DVD. Both the live Maestra (Señora Mulrean) and the DVD Maestra have the same puppets helping out. They are Rosco who is un lobo (a wolf), and Dora who is una vaca (a cow). Last week the children made their own puppet, Rosco, to whom they speak Spanish in the classroom.
All the Lower School Spanish children would like to share with their families and friends two songs that they enjoy greatly – with or without percussive effects! They are:
“¡Arre caballito!” and “A la vibora de la mar”.
Arre caballito. Giddy-up horsey.
Vamos a Madrid, Let’s go to Madrid.
que mañana es fiesta Tomorrow is a holiday,
pasado también. the next day too.
Arre, arre, arre, arre, Giddy-up, giddy-up, giddy-up, giddy-up,
que llegamos tarde. we’re going to be late.
A la vibora de la mar On the sea serpent
por aquí pueden pasar. they can go this way.
Los de adelante corren mucho. Those in the front go very fast.
Los de atrás se quedarán. Those in the back stay behind.
Saludos a todos, y ¡que pasen un otoño lleno de color y de gozo!
