Upper School French Teacher and Director of Community Service, Madame Martine Tawaji attended the U.S. Fund for UNICEF 2009 Annual Meeting, BELIEVE IN ZERO, held on June 17 and 18, 2009 in NYC. This year’s focus was the eradication of childhood polio. Special guest speaker, Anderson Cooper, from CNN’s AC360, addressed the audience and spoke of the many great works that UNICEF has accomplished for children globally. In addition, Cynthia McFadden, Nightline co-anchor, shared her experiences from a UNICEF trip to Sierra Leone. A viewing of The Final Inch, the Oscar-nominated documentary film featuring UNICEF’s extraordinary work in eradicating polio, was among the meeting's special highlights.
“After attending the UNICEF Annual Meeting, I am determined to inspire our children to make this year's Halloween Trick or Treat for UNICEF the best we have ever had. Knowing that everyday, more than 25,000 children die from preventable causes will motivate our children to collect lots of coins; a five cents donation will provide a vaccine”, shares Madame Tawaji.
