Annual Class Parties
A class party is held for each grade each year to afford parents the opportunity to meet and greet each other in an informal setting. The grade’s Class Parents organize the get together.

The EWS Book Fairs
The Book Fairs are held every fall and spring for Nursery through Ninth Grade. At the Book Fair, specially selected hard and soft cover books, tapes, computer programs and other related items for all ages will be on sale in the Library. Parents are encouraged to make book donations of specific selections to the Library at this time.

A reading list is provided beforehand for each class. The Fairs are intended as a service to East Woods families to facilitate the purchase of appropriate reading throughout the year and for the required summer reading. Volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Family and friends are welcome.

Curriculum Mornings/Nights
Curriculum Mornings/Nights are held early in the fall for Nursery through Ninth Grade parents. The Division Heads welcome parents, and the teachers for each class present their academic goals for the year and an overview of the curriculum. All parents are urged to attend these important meetings and to ask questions. At these meetings, there will also be an opportunity to sign-up for parent/teacher conferences.

Eighth Grade Bazaar (early December)
The Eighth Grade organizes this event beginning with a pancake breakfast followed by games and activities in the gym for children. Plants, fruit and other items may be sold. This bazaar was created to bring the class as a group together and to raise money for the overnight class trips in Eighth and Ninth Grade, and the class gifts which are presented to the school at graduation.

Friends of the Library
Volunteers are needed to help with exciting projects and events that make the Library a dynamic environment. Parent volunteers also help catalogue and reshelf.

Fathers’ Visiting Day
Fathers’ Visiting Day takes place on Election Day each year. Fathers are invited to visit their child’s classes and the Fall Book Fair. Dismissal is at 12:00 noon, and there are soccer games scheduled for the Fifth – Ninth Grade teams. A simple lunch is provided for the Fifth through Ninth Grade students and their fathers before the games.

Special Persons' Visiting Day
Special Persons' Visiting Day is a  visiting day for one "special" person connected to the family on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Dismissal is at 12:00 noon.

Inter School Exchange (the “ISE”)
The Inter School Exchange was founded in 1990 “…to create a platform, with Headmaster support, for the educational, cultural, and community events exchange between the following five private schools on the North Shore of Long Island: Buckley Country Day School, East Woods School, Friends Academy, The Green Vale School, and The Portledge School.” The ISE committee members (consisting of a minimum of two representatives from each school) meet monthly and are advised by the Headmaster Board of Directors.

The ISE sponsors annually the following events for its member schools:
Two major presentations in a specific area designated by the Headmasters (e.g. the cultural arts, parent education programs, etc.)
Five faculty exchange (dinners, e.g. an early childhood education dinner at East Woods School for all the Early Childhood Faculty of the member schools, etc.).

In addition, the ISE reciprocally extends invitations to the parent, faculty and student bodies of its member schools to take advantage of any school who independently hosts lectures or other interesting programs.

Paper Chase (Stationery Items)
Stationery books and order forms are available anytime in the Paper Chase corner. Parents can select from a wide variety of stationery items for personal use or gifts. All profits are returned directly to the school budget.

New Parents Reception
A New Parents Reception is held in the evening during the opening weeks of school at the home of the Headmaster. Families new to East Woods are welcomed into the community by the Headmaster, President of the Board of Trustees, the President of the Parents Association, the Trustees and the Administration.

Parenting Sessions
The Parents Association urges all parents to attend these sessions. They provide an opportunity for all parents to communicate ideas, discover new approaches and give support to each other as we meet the everyday challenges of raising children. Sessions will be held in the fall and winter. Information regarding time, topics and guest speakers will be announced at Parents Association Meetings and in the weekly bulletin.

School Store
Open Tuesday through Thursday, 8:00-8:30 a.m., the school store is operated by volunteer mothers. School supplies, computer disks, sweat shirts, baseball hats and more are sold. The school store was established as a convenience to parents and students and to promote school spirit. Profits are returned directly to the school budget.

Telephone Chain
When there are special events or meetings, they are announced in the weekly bulletin, but class parents may be asked to make telephone calls about additional information to parents. Sometimes the whole school will be called (as for snow days). On other occasions, only one grade will have to be called.
