Students at East Woods begin studying Spanish in Kindergarten. Spanish instruction continues throughout the Lower School. The overall goals of the Spanish program are as follows:
- to offer the students an opportunity to begin communicating in Spanish in a natural, enjoyable and rewarding class setting
- to expose the students to customs and manners of Spanish speaking people
- to gain actual knowledge about the countries where this language is spoken and the people who speak it
- to heighten students’ appreciation and respect for cultural diversity and sharpen their cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity
- to develop interdisciplinary skills by linking foreign language study with language arts, social studies, science and math
- to practice new vocabulary through different activities such as pair dialogues, skits, songs and games
