| Fifth Graders Participate in a Fifth Grade Play |
Fifth Grade is designed to be an introduction to Upper School. Although the format of classroom instruction is similar to that in previous years, the fifth graders are given opportunities to engage in select Upper School activities. For example, students participate in many Student Council programs, with the exception of dances. The fifth graders are encouraged to be independent thinkers and to develop mature study habits. A thirty-minute, daily study hall assists students in building independent work/study habits.
A team of teachers guide differentiated learning of the interdisciplinary curriculum, which includes language arts, social studies, math and science.

A Study of Latin America Culminates in the Latin America
Travel Fair |
The curriculum is enriched by several field trips. Students will take an overnight trip to Plymouth, Massachusetts for pilgrim study. Day trips include Mystic Seaport and the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum. Foreign language study includes an introductory course in French for one-half of the school year and Spanish for the other half. The Fifth Grade also partakes in “specials” classes, including Technology, Library, Music and Art and Industrial Arts. The fifth graders also partake in hands-on scientific experiments in the Science Lab as part of the science curriculum, which is supplemented bi-monthly by the ALPs program. A highlight of the year is the Fifth Grade play in which all students participate.
