Kindergarten consists of two classrooms, where differentiated instruction guides the students through all aspects of the curriculum. Despite being divided into two homeroom classes, the Kindergarten is viewed as one unit where the teachers work collaboratively to plan and implement the curriculum, all related activities and field trips. In addition to their two classrooms, the Kindergarten shares an area known as “The Front Yard,” where certain group activities are conducted.
Within each classroom, various learning materials are housed and utilized. Some materials are shared between the two classrooms. “The Front Yard” is home to the blocks, Legos and the children’s mailboxes. It is also the meeting space for small group instruction for differentiated learning.
Curriculum is planned collaboratively among both Kindergarten teachers to ensure consistency between sections. A thematic approach is used as part of the teaching methodology in Kindergarten. While the themes vary from year-to-year, the concepts and skills taught remain constant.
To supplement the classroom experience, the students attend the following specials each week: Physical Education, Art, Music, Computer, Library and Spanish. They also participate in various field trips as an extension to the Kindergarten Curriculum.
We are looking forward to a great year!
