The East Woods Lunch Bunch program for Early Childhood Center (ECC) children emphasizes play and socialization with an opportunity to take part in the planned activity for the day. Daily activities will run for approximately thirty minutes, and the children will not be required to participate. Activities include drawing, games and imaginative play. A part of each afternoon is set aside for outdoor play. The playground affords the children the opportunity to increase their motor skills as well as their social skills.
Lunch Bunch begins the first full day of school and is available Monday through Thursday from noon to 3:00. The program takes place in the Pre-Kindergarten rooms. It is supervised by East Woods teachers (Shari Dell and Lynn Gambarelli) and other professionals who direct the Activity of the Day. Additional faculty help, if needed. Children bring their own lunch and drink. An afternoon snack will be provided.
Students may take part in the following planned activities Monday through Thursday:
Monday — Art for Fun
East Woods Pre-K teacher and artist Karen Smullen introduces inspirational, age-appropriate art projects in varying art media.
Tuesday — Dance & Movement
Through imaginative and dramatic play, 30-minute classes integrate fine and gross motor movement, spatial skills and rhythm, as well as concepts of self-esteem and teamwork. Mrs. Erin Lopez, artistic director of Variations, a local dance studio, conducts the classes.
Introduction to Ballet for Girls: 1:15 - 1:45 pm
Rough and Tumble for Boys: 1:45 - 2:15 pm
Wednesday— Yoga
Students meet once a week for Yoga, which is run by current parent, Erin Lopez of the dance studio Variations, located in Huntington. Yoga helps students become more flexible and coordinated, enhances self-awareness, imagination and empathy, teaches self-discipline and ways to relax, builds confidence, and most importantly, is fun.
Thursday — Computer Works
In the East Woods Computer Lab, our Computer teacher Laura Sacco along with the Lunch Bunch teachers, will strengthen cognitive skills as the children enjoy creating puzzles, drawings and abstract art.
ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES: Enrollment for Lunch Bunch is flexible—parents may sign-up in advance for every day, for certain days of the week or on an occasional basis. Sign-up is also permitted on the day of participation, as space permits. To reserve a Lunch Bunch space on a per-day basis, parents should notify the ECC Director, Mrs. Carol Rogers, via telephone, in person or e-mail before noon of that day. However, parents are encouraged to sign-up in advance, as space may be limited.
